This season’s Liverpool third jersey comes inspired by the Liverbird, but this time in a much more literal sense than we’ve seen in seasons past. The Liverbird is really a Cormorant, a native English bird known for its short wings and diving ability – historically and symbolically, the cormorant is known as a tough and hardy creature that battles the odds of its environment. That symbolic strength comes hewn into the new third shirt for the Merseysiders, which features patterns and colors akin to a Cormorant’s – a Liverbird’s – feathers.
